Watch the root-sensitive species (Oregon Grape, Salal, Pacific Madrone) — these will become root-bound in containers and should not receive additional fertilizer. Prioritize multi-branching for Red Osier Dogwood, Vine Maple, Pacific Ninebark, and Elderberry species — these all look better and establish faster when they go in the ground as multi-stems. Any plant marked HOLD — ROOT BOUND should be scheduled for planting soon rather than growing on in pots.
